It’s Only a Photo

Carol A. Hand

Another funny photo frozen in time
I have years of picture IDs
To preserve these memories of mine
Of bad hair days and silly expressions
So much for first and lasting impressions

I don’t have the newest copy yet
So it’s not available to share
But when it arrives I know I’ll laugh
I’ve grown too old and wise to care

I prefer my granddaughter’s pictures, a better me
Images that preserve through time a loving legacy

This is an ode for the DMV employee who asked if I wanted him to take another photo yesterday. He was incredulous when I thanked him but said “no.” And then he smiled.

About Carol A. Hand

What matters are not the titles I’ve held or university degrees I earned or the size of a house or bank account. It’s really what I’ve learned from ordinary people like me whom I’ve met along the way. They taught me to live with gratitude and give thanks for each new day.

Congratulations on drawing a smile from a DMV employee. The DMV office near me is about as cheerful as a prisoner of war camp.

BTW, quite often, the DMV has to replace the camera lens after it takes a photo of me!;-)

    • Thank you for your lovely comments, Rosaliene. Ava was so excited to share this picture with me. It’s now prominently displayed on my refrigerator with many of her other works and her brother’s photos. They’re among the first things I see every morning.

How delightful!! I love how your glasses reflect hearts and flowers – what you like to look at, and reflecting you from the inside out! 🙂

    Beautiful drawings!
You were right refusing the second picture. From my experience, the second try looks almost always worse than the first 😉
